Symptoms of High TNF-a Levels (What Symptoms Would You Have with Elevated TNF)

TNF or "Tumor Necrosis Factor" was discovered in 1968 & originally named Lymphotoxin by Dr. Gale A Granger of University of California [1]. Many other Researchers as well as Medical Professionals continued to look into the biological effects of this selectively cytotoxic protein until it was finally differentiated as TNF-A or tumor necrosis factor alpha. The other protein in the "TNF Family" is subsequently referred to as Lymphotoxin-Alpha or LTĪ± [2]. This is because TNF-a has distinct effects that are separate from LTa [3].

In recent days, TNF-a is often the target of research involving inflammation and for good reason; TNF-a produces most of the unfortunate bodily effects due to inflammation [4] [5]. Therefore TNF-a is of great importance in determining how to tackle inflammation and many drugs used to treat Rheumatoid Arthritis and other forms of crippling inflammation directly block or ''inactivate'' TNF-a [6] [7] [8] [9].

In addition TNF-a plays a key role in symptoms of viral infections [10] and as well as in states of internal distress [11], severe wasting states [12] and Cancer [13].

So now, if TNF-a levels are high for any reason, one would want to know what the ''symptoms'' would be...and if you have read the above you would know that TNF-a can be increased for a variety of reasons. Let's first go over those symptoms though.

Symptoms of High TNF-a levels would include.

Now onto the REASONS for Elevated TNF-a.
______________________________________________

  • Oxidative Stress and Poor Antioxidant Intake [25]
  • Obesity/Poor BMI [26]
  • Sleep Deprivation [27]
  • Excessive Exercise [28]
  • Vitamin & Mineral Deficiencies [29] [30] [31]
  • Bacterial or Viral Infection [32]
  1. Influenza ("the Flu") seems to increase TNF-a levels and this causes the symptoms associated with the Flu [33].
  2. Hepatitis C seems to cause activation of the TNF-a system [34].
  3. Acute HIV Infection [35].

Now, how do we INHIBIT or REDUCE the amount of TNF-a in our body?
