In 2004, there were many posts aimed at debunking this latter definition of ''hacking'', and instead asserting that breaking into computers was the act of ''cracking'' rather than hacking. Many subsequent posts also affirmed this 'true' definition, and in the underground world, this was also true. However, the media seemed to prefer the word ''hacking'' as the hotword for computer intrusion and remote access attacks.
Nowadays, some kids who decide to DDOS a website think they are 'hackers', when nothing could be farther from the truth. DDOS means distributed denial of service - it's when floods of packets and repeat requests come through to a website's servers and attempt to 'overload them' and then ultimately, disable them temporarily. You can buy a booter online for between 5-30$ and some run the price of up to 150 - 200 $.
Now that we cleared that away, let's talk about technology. Hardware. In order to become a true 'hacker', not just a DDOS'ing script kiddie, you have to have the processing speed, the internal memory, supreme data handling capacity, a strong motherboard, and the capacity to run multiple programs at once while still maintaining high-level security/defenses for your own network while doing penetration testing and whatever else in which your particular hacker objectives may entail.
It doesn't matter whether we are talking SQL injections, PHP exploits, programming of new backdoors, exploiting current servers and company databases, or simply hacking hundreds of social networking accounts. You need good technology in order to handle the amount of programming assets needed to continuously perform these attacks and run security software.
Now you could argue that even an older, 1998 computer could get this job done, and to an extent that's true, but an old computer isn't going to last forever, it will eventually wear out, and it certainly won't be good for shit if you are DDOS'ing a website, because a 'true' DDOS will put tremendous lag on your own network regardless of how many third-party services you are employing.
If you are setting up a backdoor program, the same relies on your own computer technology, if your internal resources are weak (RAM/SRAM, CPU, SPU etc) then you will eventually run into a stop, or at least an annoying lag.
Then there's STYLE, a hacker wants the best in style, even if he does much of the work himself. If you want style, performance, and true, unsurpassed speed, bolting, bloodshedding, shining blade in the heart, optimal speed, then you want one of 10 of the laptops I am about to pronounce on this list.
...But preferably get one of the Top Two, those are the golden boys on the list.
(1)
A force to be reckoned with, excruciatingly expensive, but definitely worth it. When you stop gritting your teeth to man-up and buy this bad boy, you will be in love with it, and it, in turn, will make you feel like a God.
There is no two-ways with it, it's all-power or you don't want it... OK I Lied, that is two ways, but seriously, it has to be number 1 on this list. There is no two-ways about that.
((And btw, it's also the #1 IMHO for Gaming as well, and you will see it on almost every gaming website and Poll out there as well - so if you got the funds, it's a no-brainer for the brainy.))
2.) Lenovo - ThinkPad T460 14" Laptop - Intel Core i5 - 4GB Memory - 500GB Hard Drive - Black {http://ow.ly/doZP301EyMZ}
This Lenovo "ThinkPad" is about half the price of the first one, and still packs a mighty punch. For 1,403 you get essentially all the same power, minus a tad bit of graphics processing which otherwise would be used for visual appeal or perhaps opening up 3-D Worlds. I personally own one of these as well as an Alienware PC, though my friend owns the laptop on number one. It is an amazing laptop, and it has actually surpassed my expectations in many ways.
It is perfect for testing high dataworth servers and for pen testing. It is remarkable in that you can launch several large scale DDOS'attacks without so much as a minor lag on this one, sure, stuff will slow down, but it has such resilience in that the lag doesn't last long and will quickly be nothingness. Meaning, if you have this laptop hooked up to a network and running programs as well as attacks, it will certainly seem as though it is slowing, but then after 10-15 seconds, it no longer lags - of course, I did some internal optimization myself - but despite running literally 18 programs (pushing it to the limit), the attacks commenced as usual and without any major issues.
It has a 500 GB hard drive, that's 500 giga-bytes!!
It's a true muscle-machine. :-)

A Powerful laptop with Full HD IPS InfinityEdge Borderless Display, Intel i5-6200U, 8G, 128G SSD, Waves MaxxAudio, Backlit Keyboard, running Windows 10 - brand new, and absolutely worth it.
This one is more economically feasible, and can certainly run the multitude of programs necessary to test security capabilities, programming software, decryption/encryption programs, analysis software and network diagnostic programs.

If you are into Apples, how 'bout this Apple.
Apple MacBook Pro MF839LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop with Retina Display (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB Hard Drive, OS X Yosemite)
Apple MacBook Pro MF839LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop with Retina Display (2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB Hard Drive, OS X Yosemite)
The name and the Specs themselves speak a tale, but the most noble part of this laptop is the fact that it has ended up on, and continues to be ranked as, the number 1 or number 2 on every major Apple including PC magazine or laptop review site/magazine out there!
LapTop Mag, PCMag, Business Insider, the Trio of top review sites - they all support and highly recommend this particular laptop. That says something - BIG.

The best hacker laptop is the good old classic Dell Latitude E6400, the main reason behind it is the hardware and it's chassis design, offering maximum compatibility between Windows, Linux Distro, and easy swapping hard disk drive, in case of emergency, you can turn off all wireless connection with included switch, pull the drive etc...
ReplyDeleteHad experience before, E6400 save my life. Also thanks for the built in Dell Control Point Security Suite with TPM along with Smart Card reader and fingerprint, what more can you ask!
Thanks for the input, I agree that some older systems might be better for certain tasks, but for the majority of programmers *nowadays*, we want more advanced systems with better graphics cards.
DeleteHow important is a graphics card for hacking (aircrack, etc)? Is it more emphasis on a CPU, GPU or both?
DeleteBoth, and that's generally for bruteforcing/password cracking where you would need more firepower, but in the event of multi-system monitoring, or virtual system usage, the same 'technological advancements' would be required...its very rare you get a hacker these days who doesn't also intend to surveil their target, so for surveillance, optimal equipment is also necessary.
DeleteCan you please do a new one next year!
ReplyDeleteOh yeah! Definitely on the list. We just released a bunch of new laptop type articles on the latest posts section.
